Abstract

In communication, we must understand what the person we are talking to is saying, because if we cannot understand what is being said, there will be communication errors. Likewise in songs, songs have meaning in each lyric. Songwriters convey feelings or events that they experience through songs, therefore by analyzing speech acts we can interpret the meaning contained in a song or the message that the writer wants to convey to his listeners. This research aims to analyze the meaning of the song "We Will Not Go Down" using speech act analysis. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data used for research is a song created by Michael Heart. Data collection uses the documentation method. Data analysis uses discourse analysis. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that 14 lines were assertive, 6 lines were commissive and 2 lines were expressive. It can be concluded that from the results of the analysis above, an assertive attitude is more dominant because in this song the author wants to report or inform about the current state of Palestine and the spirit of the nation Palestine to fight colonialism against the world through the songs he wrote. Keywords: illocutionary acts, song
