Abstract
This research aimed to determine students’ perceptions regarding motivational strategies used by the teacher in an EFL classroom. In this research, the semistructured interview was used to collect data. In addition, the interviews were conducted with five participants actively involved in an EFL classroom. The data were analyzed qualitatively using thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2012). The findings showed four main strategies used by the teacher in motivating them: being a good model for students, establishing good relationship with students in the classroom, creating a pleasant atmosphere, and giving clear intruction about how to carry a task. Thus, teachers must be able to develop good teaching skills and especially understand the characteristics of their students in order to maximize their learning motivation.
