Abstract

This research aims to elaborate on the challenges of teachers teaching English to young learners while teaching and the strategies used to face the challenges faced by 4 teachers in English courses. In collecting data, this research used semi�structured interview techniques to gather information about the research objectives from participants in Tasikmalaya City, West Java, Indonesia. Data were analysed using thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The findings of this research found that there are five challenges that teachers face when teaching English to young learners, especially in English language course classes. The results of this research show that the challenges faced by teachers when teaching English to young learners are (1) difficulty in remembering vocabulary, (2) maintaining learners’ motivation, (3) managing learners' attention, (4) adjusting various learning styles, and (5) learning assessment. Meanwhile, the strategies used to face these challenges are (1) utilising storytelling, (2) utilising games, (3) utilising songs, and (4) technology�based learning.
