Abstract

A thesis is an individual writing project that gives information about a specific topic written by undergraduate students that becomes a graduation requirement at a university. This research focuses on English undergraduate students who have written a thesis, intending to identify the challenges faced by English Undergraduate students when writing a thesis and strategies for overcoming these challenges. The participants selected for this research consisted of two Undergraduate students in English major who completed their thesis in 2022-2023. This research used qualitative methods, especially case studies. Semi-structured interviews were chosen as a medium for collecting data by identifying cases experienced by students. Then, the data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. Based on the results of the interview, there were four challenges faced by students in writing their thesis such as emotional, behavioral, rhetorical, and social issues. Meanwhile, to overcome these challenges, students apply several strategies, including communication with supervisors, time management in writing a thesis, preparation for writing a thesis, and asking for feedback from friends or seniors.
