Abstract

This research aims to find out challenges and solutions for students in online learning activities in the English Public Speaking course. This research involved two participants. The research method uses an exploratory case study, and the data collection method used in this research is an interview supported by videos to stimulate recall memory and analyzed using thematic analysis. This research found that students face challenges in online English public speaking classes, namely different atmosphere of the study, lack of the use technology, internet connection problems, inadequate English vocabulary, English speaking disfluency, fear of making mistakes, ill-prepared learning English public speaking, disengaged English public speaking learning, and public speaking anxiety. Besides that, in this research it was also found that students had solutions to the challenges faced in the English public speaking class, namely reflective learning practices, discussing solutions for English public speaking challenges, self-regulated English vocabulary learning through watching movies and listening to music, more English speaking practices, performing English public speaking engagement, finding solutions through X (formerly Twitter), and well prepared English public speaking learning.
