Abstract
This study investigates the challenges faced by teachers and the solutions they employ in teaching English at vocational schools or vocational high schools (SMK) within the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The research aims to provide valuable insights into the unique difficulties encountered by educators in this setting and the strategies they use to overcome these obstacles. Through qualitative analysis, data is collected from interviews conducted with two English teachers. The findings reveal various challenges, including linguistic barriers, resource limitations, and constraints on students themselves, while also highlighting innovative approaches and effective solutions used by teachers. The findings of this research indicate that both teachers demonstrate issues found in vocational high schools such as the lack of learning facilities, difficulties in creating lesson plans, and the lack of collaboration and support from external parties, especially parents and foundations. However, the proposed solutions can address the challenges faced by both teachers, such as being dynamic in teaching, applying adaptability, creativity, and a proactive approach to overcome challenges and create an effective and engaging learning environment for vocational high school students. This study contributes to understanding effective teaching practices in vocational education or vocational high schools (SMK) and offers recommendations for improving the quality of English instruction in similar contexts. Keywords: English for Vocational School, Teaching English, Vocational school.
