Abstract

This study has investigated a student‟s language learning strategies (henceforth LLSs) who has high anxious by raising two questions and this research aims to find out the lived experience of a highly social anxious student in achieving a good language proficiency and how is the language learning strategies experience by a high social anxious student. LLSs certainly have an important role in the development of one's English, especially for a person who has high anxiety. This study using narrative inquiry as a research method and the interview was conducted by used the in-depth interview method. In accordance with the design method, the data collected through interviews have been analyzed using narrative analysis namely by retelling the journey of each series of stories experienced by Michele (pseudonym) so that it can be known that to improve fluency skills in English, Michele uses four strategies in Oxford theory, namely memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, and affective strategies. This research has found that the involvement of intrinsic motivation in English learning is one of the important keys to Michele's success in mastering her English.
