Abstract
Listening needs a great deal of concentration and effort; listening is occasionally seen as the most challenging language ability in the language classroom. Students are not aware of the difficulties they face when listening, which can reduce their interest in learning and increase their anxiety. This research aims to find out the students' listening difficulties and the solutions encountered by the students of the English education department in listening classes. This research was conducted at one of the universities in Tasikmalaya. Therefore, semi-structured interviews were used to gather data from four university students who had finished the listening class. The data was then analyzed interactively (Miles, Huberman, & Saldaña, 2014). The findings of this study revealed two themes. First, the difficulties related to 1) the message content, 2) the speaker, 3) the listener, and 4) the physical context. Second, the solutions include 1) knowledge improvement, 2) preparation and practice, and 3) adjustment techniques so the listener feels comfortable. As a suggestion, the students who will take a listening class should first be aware of the difficulties they face during listening activities, then find out how to overcome these difficulties effectively to complete the listening class successfully. Keywords: Listening class, Listening Difficulties, Solution for listening difficulties
