Abstract

Personality is considered one aspect that influences the students' language learning. Extroverts are among the most researched personalities and many previous research results show that extroverted students excel more than others. However, it was contradictory to the case found. The language ability of extroverted learners found was not excel more than others. Therefore, this case study arose to investigate the difficulties extroverted learners face and how they overcome them in learning English. This research is a descriptive case study that used semi-structured interviews to collect the data. The interviews were conducted with two participants who are female college students of English education major at one university in Tasikmalaya. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of this study discovered difficulties and solutions, which are divided into three. They are (1) unfulfillment of basic psychological needs of extroverted learners in English learning and its solutions; (2) extroverted learners’ self�regulated difficulties and solutions in English learning; and (3) linguistics difficulties and solutions in English learning. From these findings, it can be concluded that extroverted learners’ difficulties in language learning did not just come from themselves but from the people and environment around them. Likewise, to overcome this, the surrounding people and environment also play a role. Keywords: Extroverted Learner; EFL; Difficulties; English Learning
