Abstract
This study aims to discover students' language learning strategies when learning vocabulary through English songs on Spotify and its benefit on their vocabulary mastery. The research method used a descriptive case study. The participants consisted of three students majoring in English Education at a university in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed by thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The results showed that students employed several language learning strategies, including (1) memorizing vocabulary by repeatedly listening to songs; (2) utilizing Spotify’s features and online tools; and (3) organizing the learning process. Meanwhile, the benefit of learning for students' vocabulary mastery includes (1) word recognition and (2) a chance to apply vocabulary in social media. Based on the results of the data analysis, the researcher concluded that students employed several language learning strategies in terms of learning vocabulary through English songs on Spotify, which benefits their vocabulary mastery. The implication of this research is to emphasize the use of students’ language learning strategies in learning vocabulary through songs on Spotify and its benefit on vocabulary mastery.
