Abstract

The present study was conducted to find out the students’ perception of the use of WhatsApp during English Language Learning in COVID-19 pandemic. This was designed with descriptive case study and the data were collected in form of semi-structured interview. The study was distributed to three EFL Students at one of Senior High School in Kuningan, West Java, Indonesia. The interview data of participants that had been transcribed were coded and displayed descriptively into three main themes: The benefits of English language learning through WhatsApp, WhatApp-based English language learning practices, and The drawbacks of English learning language through WhatsApp. It was found that the participants perceived WhatsApp as easy to use and providing easy features to support the English language learning process. The implementation of English language learning occurred in WhatsApp group chats such as attendance, providing the material from the teacher, reading sessions, and peer sessions in the form of assignments. On the other hand, there were negatives perceptions such as a lack of interaction between teacher and students, and a lack of understanding of the material.
