Abstract
Pronunciation is a basic thing in English, it is an important thing that must be considered in communication because the intonation, sounds, and patterns can influence the understanding of the other person. However, it was found several problems such as the lack of attention to the use of technique in pronunciation teaching resulting in limited knowledge about integrating pronunciation instructions in language classes, The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of repetition drill as an English language teaching technique based on teacher and students’ perspectives. The research design used is qualitative descriptive case study. The participants in this study were a teacher, and students in conversational class. The research data was collected using semi-structured interviews and structured interviews. Data analysis used thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). Repetition drill has a significant impact on improving students’ pronunciation in conversation classes with the process through Optimizing English Pronunciation Accuracy which focuses on familiarizing with English sounds, familiarizing with phonetic transcription, and familiarizing with the produced word, as well as by Overcoming the Influence of Mother Tongue on English Pronunciation, which focuses on improving stressing and intonation. Teachers believe that incorporating repetition drills into the learning process brings advantages as it can embed something with consistency, especially on basic aspects such as repeating words or sentences while focusing the practice on specific features. For future research, basic knowledge and preparation of teachers before applying repetition practice techniques in the classroom can be explored, using different data collection techniques and more varied participants.
