Abstract

This qualitative case study investigates the utilization of podcasts in autonomous listening activities among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. The study aims to explore how these learners listen to podcasts across three stages of listening activities: pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening. The data were gathered from two EFL learners through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings illuminate distinct ways EFL learners apply in their autonomous listening activities by using podcasts. Key themes emerged, highlighting the learners’ approaches to preparation before listening, active engagement during listening, and reflective practices after listening. The implications of these findings underscore the importance of integrating podcasts as a resourceful tool in language learning pedagogy, offering insights for educators and learners seeking effective strategies for autonomous listening activities. Keywords: Autonomous listening activities, EFL learners, podcasts, listening stages
