Abstract
Vocabulary is one of the important elements that must be mastered in communicating in a foreign language. The vocabulary teaching techniques applied by the teacher is one way of success in mastering vocabulary. Apart from that, a conducive environment is a driving factor in producing positive results in language, such as Islamic boarding schools with superior language program. This research aimed to portraying vocabulary teaching techniques applied in the Islamic boarding school environment, along with exploring the obstacles faced and how to overcome them. The research method used in this research is a descriptive case study. The participant is one of the vocabulary teachers at the institution. Data collection was carried out through observation and semi-structured interviews. Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) theory, and thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) was used to analyze the data. Based on the results of data analysis, the researcher concluded that the participant (teacher) applied presentation techniques, practice techniques and techniques in vocabulary training. And in its implementation, there are two obstacle factors, namely internal factors and external factors. However, the teachers and the institution continue to explore and resolve existing obstacles through the programs they have created.
