Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research is to investigate university students' attitudes toward learning English vocabulary with Duolingo. Focusing on 3 students, this study sought to gain an in-depth understanding of students' attitudes at an Indonesian university in utilizing Duolingo in learning English vocabulary. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis, to uncover the student's attitude towards learning English vocabulary with the help of Duolingo. The findings of this study showed that the students showed a positive attitude towards Duolingo in assisting with English vocabulary learning. Those positive attitudes involve (1) Duolingo as a qualified and accurate platform in assisting vocabulary learning, (2) Duolingo as an enjoyable vocabulary learning platform, and (3) Duolingo as a platform that keeps students' intention to continue learning vocabularies. By knowing these attitudes, Duolingo is expected as a tool for learning English vocabulary outside the classroom and as additional media in vocabulary learning in the form of games for students, teachers, or lecturers.
