Abstract

This study shows how using the Process-based Approach for teaching writing recount text to high school students worked. This study wants to find out if using the Process-based Approach can help students get better at writing recount texts. The study used classroom action research and did two cycles of research. The investigation was conducted at a high school in Cikatomas during the 2023/2024 academic year. Data was gathered through students' written tests, observation checklists, and documentation. An interactive model by Miles & Huberman (1994) was used to evaluate the data from observation checklists, while a scoring rubric and descriptive statistics were used to assess the test score data from the students. The results showed that after two cycles of using the Process-based Approach, the students reached the success criteria of minimum completion, which is 77.00. In the first cycle the students’ average score was 73.75, and in the second cycle they can do better and improve to 79.32. It proves that implementing the Process-based Approach was effective to improve students' writing ability. Keywords: process-based approach, writing, recount text
