Abstract

This research analyzed students’ perceptions of using fables in learning narrative text. Students generally perceive fables as engaging due to their storytelling nature and moral lessons conveyed through animal characters. To achieve the research objectives, this research uses a descriptive case study as the research method. The data collection technique used in this research is semi-structured interviews. The researcher used thematic analysis from the participants’ interview transcripts to analyze the data. The participants in this research were three students from the 8th grade of junior high school, including two female students and one male student. The research found that fables can be helpful in narrative text learning to improve the student’s enthusiasm, understanding, learning motivation, learning performances, and learning experiences. The findings can be used as consideration for teachers to utilize fables in the classroom, specifically in learning narrative text, to create a more exciting and enjoyable learning environment for students.
