Abstract
Teaching English is crucial in nowadays world whether it is in public or private schools, including general schools and religious-based ones like MTs. This research investigated the challenges faced by English language teachers in several MTs in the Sadananya District of Ciamis Regency. To achieve this goal, the research employed a qualitative case study design. The participants in this research are four English language teachers from four different MTs. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings indicated that challenges arise from students' conditions, teachers, and institutional situations. Students face difficulties in language proficiency and motivation, with diverse linguistic backgrounds contributing to varying levels of mastery. Additionally, previous English language proficiency inadequacies at lower levels further complicate the learning process. From the teacher's perspective, some of the teachers felt bored in teaching and struggled to adapt to changing curricula often exacerbated by inadequate training. Moreover, financial constraints drive teachers to seek additional employment affecting their focus on teaching. Regarding facilities, insufficient teaching materials, limited access to technology, and a shortage of books hinder the quality of education. Keywords: Teaching, English Language, Challenges, MT
