Abstract

This study aims to find out how the “Games to Learn English” website has the potential to improve students' vocabulary and how these games can improve the mastery of English vocabulary in grade 6 students at one elementary school in Tasikmalaya. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) as its methodology. Its primary objective was to improve the vocabulary mastery of sixth grade students enrolled in one of the elementary schools in Tasikmalaya. This study focused on students belonging to sixth grade, comprising 12 students, with 6 boys and 6 girls. The data was collected using testing, such as pre-test, test cycle 1, and test cycle 2. The data was analyzed using the mean score of tests. The researcher analyzed the mean score of each test to find out the improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after the action was conducted. The researcher carried out a study in which student vocabulary action mastery increased optimally. This can be seen from the mean score of the pre-test is 57.5. Then, the researcher implemented the “Games to Learn English” website, then in cycle 1 the mean score increased to 67.5 and the class percentage was 50%, but there are still some weaknesses in the process so this score is still poor. Then, after evaluating the teaching-learning process, in cycle 2, the mean score increased again to 82.5 and the class percentage was 83,3%, which met the success criteria of ‘fair’ grading. After implementing these actions, the researcher solved the problem of improving vocabulary mastery. Students are able to understand the meaning of the words, memorize new vocabulary, and be enthusiastic in the teaching-learning process by using the “Games to Learn English” website.
