Abstract
Sabila Hilya Jannah. 2019. “Picture and Ideology: A Multimodal Analysis of An English Textbooks in Indonesia”. English Education Department. Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teachers’ Training (FKIP). Siliwangi University. Tasikmalaya. Knowing ideology pictures in ELT textbooks is important. The author gives a meaning in ELT textbook in order to make student is able to learn English. To convey meaning the author’s intentions, the author conveys towards collaborating picture and text in which code ideological position of their author. Therefore, the teacher should understand the content of ELT textbook in order knowing what ideology are involved by the author in ELT textbook. This study aimed to reveal ideology and the dominant ideology of picture in English textbook “When English Rings a Bell”. The researcher chosen six pictures as the data which analyzed through the meaning of composition visual grammar’s framework (Kress & Van Leeuwen’s, 2006). The result showed the ideology was involved in English textbook are tolorance, optimistic, responsibility and awareness in which the ideology was dominated by norm and value.
