Abstract
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a well-known massively multiplayer online role�playing game (MMORPG). In this game, WoW gamers possibly learn English vocabulary as they are encouraged to socialize with other gamers and complete line quests to improve the characters in the game. The study described how Indonesian WoW gamers learn English vocabulary in the WoW game. This study utilized a descriptive case study method. The participants involved three Indonesian WoW gamers in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia. The data were collected through the utilization of semi-structured interviews. The thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the participants learned English vocabulary in the WoW game. These were: 1) WoW Game Triggered Gamers to Learn English Vocabulary and 2) WoW Game Effectiveness in Facilitating English Vocabulary Learning. The data analysis concluded that the WoW game is an effective tool for triggering English vocabulary learning among Indonesian gamers. The implication of this study is to show that WoW games can be an effective learning resource for expanding English vocabulary outside formal environments such as school.
