Abstract

Lying is an intentionally act to give a certain information as the deviated alternative from the truth existed in order that the hearer will believe it. This research focuses on the lying realization based on the linguistic levels as the cues of deception. The data are words, phrases, clauses, and sentences taken from two emails in a volunteering participant address. The theories related to describe deception (Fuller, et.al, 2013; Zhou,et.al., 2014; Nizamani, et.al, 2014), become the foundation of analysing data. The result shows that the cues of lying to deceit is about greeting by offering prize, containing financial terms, like money, share, percent, containing terms like advocate, and talking about some relation, asking receiver to contact as soon as possible, and talking about death of some person and giving greed to receiver. These finding also support the linguistic constructs of deception which identify lying based on quantity, specificity, uncertainty, diversity, complexity, nonimmemediacy, personalism, affect, activation, and cognitive information (Fuller, et.al, 2013). Therefore, these elements of lying are essential to detail deception which is intentionally misleading another person and can cause immense harm, pain, and have grave financial consequences (Veer, et.al, 2014). Keywords: lying, deception, linguistic levels, linguistic construct, financial consequences
